A.1 Department of Bioengineering is a department within the Faculty of Engineering and was established in 2000, as a first of its kind in Turkey.The department accepts 30 undergraduate students for every year. Today, The department has 92 undergraduate students 8 of which are taking English students who follow preparatory classes for “Foreign Language” in its second academic year. There are also 23 M.Sc students.

The staff of Department of Bioengineering includes 4 proffesors, 3 Assoc. Professors, 4 Assist. Professors, 1 Lecturer and 6 research assistants from different disciplines.

The main topics in the Department of Bioengineering are as follows;

  1. Bioprocess Engineering; Bioprocess Design, Biocatalysis, Bioseperation.
  2. Genetic Engineering; Cell Engineering, Tissue Culture Engineering.
  3. Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Diagnosis, Biomedical Therapy, Biomechanics, Biomaterials.
  4. Molecular Engineering; Protein Engineering, Activate Coumpound Design
  5. Biotechnology; Industrial Biotechnology, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology.

A3. At the present,  The Department of Bioengineering includes 4 laboratories; Bioprocess Laboratory, Genetic Laboratory, Animal Cell Culture Laboratory and Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and a library.

A.4 The programme which is active at the present is “Bioprocess Enginering” oriented. In the first year of education the students attend a year preparatory programme the Foreign Language Department. After passing the preparatory class, the students are accepted to the Bioprocess Engineering programme for four years.

A.5 The students are evaluated through a mid-term exam and a final exam on theorical and laboratory courses at each semester.

A.6 The evaluation is over 100 points. 40% of mid-term exam grade and 60% of final exam grade make up the passing grade for each course. The students must have minumum 60 points over 100 as the sum of both exams. In addition the final exam grade should not be below 60.
