Ege University Department of Bioengineering was established in the year 2000 as the first “Bioengineering Department” in Turkey. It has grown extensively since then, both academically and in infrastructure. It is now renowned for its unique quality in RTD and post-graduate training strengthened by its wide-spread contacts and collaborations at national and European levels with significant outputs in research projects, prestigious scientific research papers, industrial collaborations and patent applications.
Engineering, in general uses mathematics, physics and chemistry for the purpose of developing new technologies and services to improve the living standards of societies. In this aspect, bioengineering is a discipline that applies engineering principles to biological systems.
The Department of Bioengineering started the education and research activities with 6 academic staff. As of November 2015, there are 20 academic members from different disciplines.
